THE BACKSTORY
Her music career began at age 8 with classical piano- from private study to playing recitals in malls and with concert choirs. In her teens, she quickly accelerated into becoming a regional and state award-winning concert pianist (Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland.) She graduated from all-girls Catholic high school Seton Keough (yes, that school from the docuseries on Netflix "The Keepers") with Tri-M Music Society honors.
She has a BFA from The Boston Conservatory at Berklee (merit scholarship) for Musical Theatre with a Directing minor and tested out of Piano. It was in college that she joined her first band, Disciples of Astaroth- a gothic / industrial dance band. Then known as "Syrenne" [/sai·ruhn/], the band played in the Northeast to packed houses of college students, drag queens, club kids, ravers, rivetheads and mall goths. DOA recorded a full-length album "Embrace the Empty" and released a song on Cleopatra Records' "The Carnival Within- A Tribute to Dead Can Dance" that became a goth club favorite- "The Ubiquitous Mister Lovegrove."
After DOA disbanded, Militia moved to New York City and quickly established herself on the scene. She played sang and played bass guitar in various local hard rock and grindcore bands. In 2000, M claimed her rightful place as a front woman at the legendary BITCH night at Don Hill's in Soho NYC (as seen in the documentary "The Bitch Movie" which premiered at Wacken Open Air in 2019.) In 2005, her hard rock/groove metal band, Swear On Your Life emerged. SOYL released one e.p. "BURN MY CROSSES" that was deemed "offensive" and was banned at several colleges during its first week of release. The band toured the east coast, opening for Twisted Sister, Made Out of Babies (with Julie Christmas) and Bella Morte.
Craving more creative freedom and a new sound, Militia Vox officially went solo in 2013 and has since shared the stage with Corey Glover (Living Colour), dUg Pinnick (King's X), Voltaire and Michale Graves (x-Misfits.) Militia Vox has won 3 Global Music Awards for Best Female Vocalist, Best Lyrics / Songwriting and Best in Genre: Alternative Metal.
